Finally the big day has arrived and we were all gathered in church for the wedding ceremony of Alan & Stephanie. Elaine and I played for the march-in, then together with Aaron for the opening hymns. During the acknowledgements, Stephanie sprang a surprise (albeit an “expected” one?) crooning Jim Brickman’s Valentine to Alan, while we accompanied her on the piano and violin.  At the end the whole band (guitar, piano, violin and drums) played two hymns, with an upbeat last piece to round off the whole ceremony on a high! Watch the video below, a compilation of excerpts from the performance:

Last Lesson

December 12, 2008, Students

Today’s the last lesson for Yen, a secondary school teacher who wanted to learn only the basics so as to be able to help out in the string ensemble CCA she manages at school. A very meticulous student, she raised many insightful questions that helped her learn quickly. Her diligent practice paid off as well. Over a span of 9 lessons in 1 month, she was able to play with good posture and tone in the first position. We covered about 5 pieces from Suzuki book 1 and a G major scale. Though constant reminders were needed (as for all beginners), she has learned essential basics and practice techniques, both that would come to good use if she continues to further her violin learning in the future.

If you were wondering what the box of Toblerones is about – it’s a gift from Yen! Thank you Yen! It’s a pity we have to end, but all the best and happy holidays!
