Happy Birthday!

October 8, 2009, Students

Here’s my student, Erika, playing the Happy Birthday song for her sister! Much effort went into this video – putting on make-up, doing a couple of re-takes due to nervousness, and some soothing and bribing of a little boy at home – but it finally came out fine! Happy Birthday Erika’s sis!

Performed for my ex-student, Phei Yee’s wedding at InterContinental Singapore with pianist Xuefen. We played Salut D’Amour for the march-in, then continued with a set of classical (Humoresque, Minuets) and jazz/ballads (Moon River, Wouldn’t It Be Loverly etc.). We also had a special violin duet performance featuring Phei Yee’s niece, Beth, who happens to be my student too. She was really nervous but the piece went well. Definitely a good performing experience for all of us.

Student photos :)

With Albert’s photo presence I finally have a single representation in the severly under-represented gender of my modest student “population”. Looks rather charismatic eh?

Despite long hours of work upon many days of OT, Shihui still managed to keep a smile (and foundation) on as she posed for the photos.

Thanks again, Albert and Shihui!

Last Lesson

December 12, 2008, Students

Today’s the last lesson for Yen, a secondary school teacher who wanted to learn only the basics so as to be able to help out in the string ensemble CCA she manages at school. A very meticulous student, she raised many insightful questions that helped her learn quickly. Her diligent practice paid off as well. Over a span of 9 lessons in 1 month, she was able to play with good posture and tone in the first position. We covered about 5 pieces from Suzuki book 1 and a G major scale. Though constant reminders were needed (as for all beginners), she has learned essential basics and practice techniques, both that would come to good use if she continues to further her violin learning in the future.

If you were wondering what the box of Toblerones is about – it’s a gift from Yen! Thank you Yen! It’s a pity we have to end, but all the best and happy holidays!

Photoshoot

October 27, 2008, Students

Last Saturday, I did a simple photoshoot of 4 of my students. Despite some initial “protests” from some, finally all of them allowed me this great favour. So, a big thanks to Shu Qi, Christina, Casandra and Sharon! Their testimonials will be up soon!
